ROAD OF CREATION

About

MATERIALS

All of Elma's creations are made out of natural materials: wood, stone, shells, coral, and various kinds of plants... In her larger artworks, using a variety of materials and unique inspiration, the stunning result could sometimes feel like a total independent ecosystem. In the smaller artworks, the simple combination of design celebrates the influence of Zen, that she spent years studying in the far east. Every piece of artwork is made by Elma's hands, spirit and attitude. She looks forward to expanding the power of nature from outdoor to indoor, awakening people's connection with nature to get some rest and comfort from the daily grind of routine life.

BIOGRAPHY

Elma Selma is a nature installation artist and fashion enthusiast who's developed her own original approach to both interior design and event planning.

Hailing from greater Vilnius, Lithuania, Elma grew up in the countryside, just outside the historic capital, and has cultivated a deep love for both the earthly and primordial as well as the man made marvels of architecture that grace Vilnius as the world heritage city it is.

These two polar opposites, the open land and the urban landscape were equally influential in honing her unique sense of aesthetics, that celebrates the effects of aesthetics on our everyday life and our overall emotional psyche.

Already at a young age, Elma has identified a certain holy Trinity in design. That is, nature, man, and the man made.

In her aesthetic world view, those three should always strive to exist in complete harmony with each other.

Spending her youth toying with flower arrangements and nature installations, Elma’s interest in fashion started from an exploration of that same concept as she was trying to fit a human presence into both natural and architectural spaces. That exploration led her to start designing complete test shoots for concepts she believed in, many times serving as her own model in the process, and infusing the shoots with the same radiant energy she brings into her work as an artist.

The results were so captivating that she was quickly approached by modelling agencies in Lithuania and Milan, and decided to use the opportunity to further her creative dreams and aspirations.

In 2013 she was already chosen to represent Lithuania in the Miss International pageant in Japan.

That exposure to the Eastern Asian culture had a profound effect on her quest for a new sense of natural aesthetic. Using the fashion industry as an anchor, she moved herself to Taiwan and kept growing her plant business side by side to gracing international runways in both East and West. The fashion work also allowed her an intimate peak into the work and thought processes of many of the world’s greatest designers, from which she was able to adopt some positive lessons and incorporate them back into her nature installation pieces.

Upon her return to Europe, Elma has thrown herself completely into her new plant art studio. Her mission is to bring something new to the world of aesthetics, and help create spaces conducive to  happier and healthier environments for all living creatures to reside, enjoy and exist in... Which is to say, this is not just a creative pursuit but rather a vocation.
